Ac-centuate the positive

You may recall my saying I have a mania for improvement.  Apparently this blog has not escaped my clutches.  I’m thinking about semantics, about how the language I use impacts my thoughts and my life.  In particular, I am thinking about my emphasis on releasing what I do not want, as opposed to embracing what I do want.

Take the idea of Lightening Myself.  Originally, I chose the “Excess Body Fat Released” phrase as a more positive, more precise way of saying I want to lose weight.  Because do I, really?  Or do I want to have less fat?  I don’t actually want to lose muscle, or skin, or hair, or limbs, all of which would result in a loss of weight.  (I’ll actually take more muscle and more hair on my head, thanks.)

But getting rid of something bad is still not as positive as getting something good.  So what, precisely, do I want?  Good health.  And how, precisely, will I get it?  By getting good sleep, eating good food, drinking good amounts of water, and getting good exercise.  In other words, by taking good care of myself.

Taking good care of myself.  Sounds good, for a change.  I think I’ll start by getting some good sleep.  Good night!

Five things I am grateful for today:

  1. All the good friends David has made through board game nights.
  2. That my boss did not freak out about today’s appointment running long.
  3. Roasted red peppers and guacamole!
  4. Trader Joe’s – how come I don’t go there regularly?
  5. Gnathologic orthopedics.
  • {Take good care of myself}: Ate only healthy food today, no flour or sugar at all.  Got a leg massage. Went to bed at 9 pm – a miracle!
