My mission, if I choose to accept it…

First, an update on the No Excuses Workout Challenge: another day, another workout. This time I did the DVD of the No Excuses Workout: core work, lunges, squats, pushups attempted pushups.  Again, I’m very proud of myself.

Now, as to the mission:  we had a visiting priest at church on Sunday who asked if anyone’s employer had a mission statement and, if yes, if they could recite it from memory.  (This was in relation to the Gospel of the two greatest commandments: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength; and Love your neighbor as yourself… what he described as the mission statement of the church.)

We don’t have a mission statement at work, but my mind went on a different tangent.  The categories of this blog are like a mission statement for my life right now.  I can recite them from memory (Lighten Up, Lighten My Heart, Lighten My Life, Lighten the Load, Lighten Myself) and I can tell you what each one means to me.  Are they the be-all and end-all?  No, I think that Jesus had that one down better than I ever could.  But they are a way to remember the things that don’t come naturally to me, the things I want to continue to improve on.  I need to keep working to be happier, healthier, more positive, more loving, more conscious of how I use my time, more conscious of how I let stuff take over my life and my home.

Five things I am grateful for today:

  1. Getting to my sleep machine appointment on time not too late!
  2. My girl (who was stressed this morning) getting her homework done and getting to school on time.
  3. Getting a final visit with Dad and Ann before they depart for warmer climates.  (XOXO – I’ll miss you guys!)
  4. A lovely Halloween candle gift from Deb!
  5. Q getting a ride home from soccer with Tom and Emma.
  • {Take good care of myself}: Worked out!  Ate fruit and veg!  Made sweet potato fries!  No flour or sugar or dairy!
  • {Spend quality time with people I love}: Visit from Dad and Ann; visit with my little Deb (though I think I just talked at her; gotta watch that); cuddle and serious chat with Q when I got home from work; documentary watching with my boy.
  • {Filling my mind with positive thoughts}:  Missed my midnight blog deadline but did not beat myself up about it.

  1. I would like to make a suggestion, lighten (or enlighten) your point of view just a bit…..Lori, you keep saying you need to improve which implies your current self
is flawed…and it bothers me. love yourself more sister!….but be open for and push for growth. It’s growth your seeking, not improvement. growth signifies you’ve got a great base that can be expanded to be a greater thing…. that you can seek knowledge and enlightenment
that will open your mind and body to growth and maturity in a positive way that will influence you now and in the future….just saying….

  2. Hmmm… you’re right; choosing the right word is so important. I could write a long reply to you, but I think it might expand into my blog topic for today! Thanks for the input and the idea!
