99 things – #51 through #55

I found a list of 99 things, and I will be bolding the ones I’ve done and explaining a bit about each. Because I have a tendency to yammer on, I am doing 5 of the 99 at a time. (Again, if anyone reading was involved in any of these, feel free to add facts or correct my memory… and I’ll keep looking for photos.)

  • #1 through #5 are here.
  • #6 through #10 are here.
  • #11 through #15 are here.
  • #16 through #20 are here.
  • #21 through #25 are here.
  • #26 through #30 are here.
  • #31 through #35 are here.
  • #36 through #40 are here.
  • #41 through #45 are here.
  • #46 through #50 are here.

51. Gone scuba diving or snorkeling.  Oh, yeah… I’ve snorkled. It was not a pretty sight. See my fish-attack story here.

52. Kissed in the rain. This one makes me smile. I am an Oregonian; if I didn’t kiss in the rain, I’d miss out on a lot of kissing opportunities.

53. Played in the mud. When I was in third grade, we lived in Newport Beach, California, right beside an undeveloped bluff a couple of blocks from the ocean. We were basically free-range children back then, so we amused ourselves by roaming the bluffs looking for “caves” that we could turn into forts. (These were not caves at all, but indentations in the face of the bluff that would fit two or three small kids.) We’d bring random stuff to the forts – boxes, cans, scrap wood, stuff to play with – and get it all arranged how we liked it. Of course, it never rains in Southern California – but when it does, it pours. (Man, it pours.) After a big rainstorm, we’d come back, dig everything out, and set up again. Luckily, that’s half the fun!

54. Gone to a drive-in theater. When we were little, we often went to the Hi-Way 39 Drive-In in Westminster. I remember so many things: wearing our pajamas, bringing our own popcorn, walking to the snack bar to use the bathroom. I saw movies there all the way through high school, but when I think of going to Hi-Way 39, the first movie that comes to mind is The Gnome-Mobile. Nobody on earth seems to remember this movie, which came out in 1967 but was re-released in November of 1976 (which makes me think we might have gone to see it for my 10th birthday). The movie was not fantastic, by any means, but the theme song will stick in your head forever.

55. Been in a movie. No, not even as an extra. I’m going to need to work on this one!

Score: Four out of five, 25 out of 55 in all. A tiny bump up to 45%.

  1. Love this! What I remember most about Highway 39 was going to see a revival of The Ten Commandments with the Vellanowiths in their station wagon, and taking turns on the roof to watch! (Also a few steamy dates here in high school… 🙂 )

    1. I actually remember that! (Okay, I don’t remember your steamy dates, but I do remember The Ten Commandments. Sitting on the roof was the big honor.)
